  • Tom Barnard Morning Show: Hour 3 – When love starts, the laughs stop

Your browser does not support the audio element.

Tom unveiled the first winner of the Eagles Farewell Tour contest to join Tom in his suite at the XCEL Energy Center to enjoy the show. Sign up for a chance to win online or through the Tom Barnard Show app!

In the first hour, SKOR North’s Judd Zulgad talks about the passing of legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight, and KSTP’s Chris Egert on the upcoming new Minnesota state flag and news on a local fire.

Hour #2 has local producer and filmmaker Adrian Wilson stop by the studio to promote the Twin Cities Toy Drive and discuss his work in the community.

In Hour #3, Adrian Wilson continues his toy drive even as college tuition continues to skyrocket. The two have nothing to do with one another, we just wanted to take a shot at the education system. Kristyn Burtt, meanwhile, discusses what happens when the protagonist in a comedy film falls in love. Usually, the answer is “the film gets a lot less funny”.

On the Family, Ben Penrod comes in to promote Twin Cities Con, a convention about comics, anime, video games, and all the other “nerd stuff”. I’m a nerd, so I’m allowed to call it that. If you want to gain some nerd cred yourself, buy a ticket and drop on by this Friday through Sunday. It’s not going to be streamed anywhere, so in-person is your only chance, just as it should be.

Tom starts the show with the unveiling of a new segment chronicling his daily drive into the studio; a creative name of the segment is still pending.

In the first hour, SKOR North’s Judd Zulgad recaps the Vikings’ moves from the NFL the NFL Trade deadline and acquiring a new QB, and KSTP’s Chris Egert on the media’s perception of what’s happening in the Middle East.

In hour #3 filmmaker Michelle Danner joins to talk about her most recent work “Miranda’s Victim” which takes on the story behind an infamous rape that changed American history. Keeping with the lighthearted theme, Kristyn Burtt and the gang discuss domestic abuse. But hey, at least we can go watch The Righteous Gemstones if we want to get back into a good mood.

On the Family, Tim Laurent of My Pickleball Coach and Tim Lammers of eponymous fame discuss what it’s like to be named “Tim L”. They also discuss pickleball and movies that are way, way too long. Hey, there’s an idea: movies that play during a game of pickleball. Give you something to do while the director strokes their own ego for three and a half hours.

  • Tom Barnard Morning Show: Hour 3 – Fifths, handles, and other harmful jargon

Your browser does not support the audio element.

Miraculously Tom and Tevin were able to make it into the show today despite the snow…Brittany not so much.

In the first hour, SKOR North’s Judd Zulgad talks about the Timberwolves blowing a 21-point lead and what could be in store for the Vikings with today’s NFL trade deadline, and KSTP’s Chris Egert on how the snow could impact Halloween celebrations and the Will Smith & Jada Pinkett drama.

Hour #2 has Tom reminisce on his days trick or treating as a kid in northeast Minneapolis, the tips you need to know to have a successful Halloween despite the weather, and the crew discusses protesting in America.

In hour #3 Kristyn Burtt discusses alcoholism. Not hers – everyone else’s. Remember, she works in Hollywood. There’s a lot of that kind of thing out there. There’s also a lot of that kind of thing up here in Minnesota, although it seems to be something of a self-correcting problem given enough time.

On the Family, we end Shocktober with some different flavors of shock. Culture shock, the shock of seeing death at an NHL game, and of course going into diabetic shock from eating too much candy. We don’t actually talk about that last one, but you should definitely consider it as a possibility.
